Frontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology just launched a Research Topic on "Fungi as Cell Factories: Genetic Engineering and Applications", edited by Pedro Gonçalves, Sonja Billerbeck (University of Groningen) and Anderson Oliveira (University of São Paulo). We are looking forward to receiving works on recent research advances that revolve around the fields of biotechnology, synthetic biology, genomics, bioinformatics, natural products, and the delineation of biosynthetic pathways in fungi. Izabel Lai, who has joined our group a month ago, presented her research proposal to her fellow Master's students and faculty of the Department of Cell Biology and Anatomy. Izabel's project will focus on the mechanisms of regulation of antifungal drug resistance by the transcription factor CZT-1. Welcome Izabel, and good luck!

Our collaborator Prof. Louise Glass (University of California, Berkeley) has been elected to join the United States' National Academy of Sciences, one of the highest honors in the scientific field worldwide. Congratulations Louise on this big achievement!
